MODULE 4 PUBLIC RELATIONS
1. INSTRUCTIONAL OBJECTIVES
On completion of this module you must be able to list and demonstrate:
1. The points that create a favorable impression with regard to dealing with persons in general.
2. The points that contribute to poor relations or conflict with persons in general,
2. AIM
The aim of this module is to give the student a broad understanding of the meaning of the term public relations, and the need for the promotion thereof.
3. FAVOURABLE IMPRESSIONS
The Security Officer is the first person seen when entering a company’s premises.
If the visitor sees that the Security Officer sloppy, dirty and wearing incomplete uniform, the first impression of the company and security will be poor, to create a favorable impression, there are certain things that a Security Officer must do:
3.1 Be Smartly Dressed. Wear full and clean uniform every day.
3.2 Have A Professional Attitude. Be tactful and enforce the rules and regulations of the company, Act diplomatically.
3.3 Communicate Effectively. Don’t use slang language. Address visitors with respect
3.4 Show Concern. Help people with their problems and listen to their complains
3.5 Demonstrate Good Manners. Always greet people politely, be friendly and respect other people’s feelings and viewpoints.
4. POINTS THAT CONTRIBUTE TO POOR PUBLIC RELATIONS.
Public relations is the image we portray of the company and ourselves to the general public. It is largely our responsibility to create and maintain good public relations. To do this the following is a list of traits that the Security Officer must avoid at all costs:
Poor Attitude, Rude Speech, Incompetence, Rumor Spreading, Disinterest in peoples’ concerns, Impoliteness, Exploitation, Abuse Of Authority, Poor Communication.
